IS THE DEMOCRATIC FORM OF GOVERNMENT THE BEST FORM OF GOVERNMENT?

There is an ongoing debate that whether Democratic form of government is the best form of government or is there a better form of government then this? Many political scientists have their own views but in this report our group after reading many articles and consulting different books and blogs we concluded that YES it is the best form of government. It is easy to understand why. Democracies are on average richer than non-democracies, are less likely to go to war and have a better record of fighting corruption. More fundamentally, democracy lets people speak their minds and shape their own and their children’s futures. That so many people in so many different parts of the world are prepared to risk so much for this idea is testimony to its enduring appeal. We founded many reasons on the behalf of which we gave our opinion but in this report we have talked on just five points just to support our answer that’s why it is the best form of government.

The five points on which we concluded our statement are as below:

PROMOTES EQUALITY

                                             The main aspect which makes democracy the best form of government is that it promotes equality. No one is prioritized on the basis of his/her creed, religion, color, nationality but it believes that everyone is the subject of its government and possesses equal rights. They have the right to vote they have the right to participate in government affairs and select their leaders. Men and women whoever it is if he/she is mature and are mentally stable they are the part of the democratic form of government and can take part in the government affairs.

Other important points to be noted are that when people were living in patriarchal or matriarchal societies a specific gender was being pointed out as the leaders and so the world was not enjoying the equal rights for one gender but with democratic form of government people are satisfied with concept of equality as no specific gender is being given the importance. Hence the world today is giving a different kind of picture which is much more stable than that of when people were treated on the basis of gender.

In democracy the real power remains with citizens as they can change the government and the views of public really influence the government policies.

·       ECONOMIC DEMOCRACY:

 It means that there is no class distinction in a country. It provides “equal opportunities” to all citizens.

·       SOCIAL DEMOCRACY

It means that all citizens will be treated equally. No distinction will be made on the basis of cast, color, class and gender.

PROTECTS INTEREST OF CITIZENS:

Democracy can protect citizen's rights in many ways. Basically democracy can protect citizens politically, economically, and socially.  Political democracy means the sovereignty of the people and the political rights of adult citizens. It means that every adult citizen have right to vote and participate in election. In a democratic government citizens have right of freedom of speech and freedom of opinion. And also rights to make an association and different unions for the protection of their rights.

In democratic government it is the responsibility of government to protect the rights of citizens against the government as well as the rights of individual. Democracy give right to citizen that they can spend their life in their own according to the ordinance and laws of the state. In democratic government public can freely participate in general debates and they can criticize the government.

RESPONSIBILITY AND STABILITY IN ADMINISTRATION:

In democratic form of government the citizens of a state elect their representatives through proper system of elections. The choice of electoral system or method of election is one of the most important institutional decisions for any democracy. In almost all cases, method of election has a profound effect on the future political life of the state concerned, and electoral systems, once chosen, often remain fairly constant as political interests solidify around and respond to the incentives presented by them.

Individuals under a democratic system discuss matters and issues thoroughly in order to come up with reasonable decisions. They actively participate in the decisions related to state as they consider it their core responsibility. Hence a democratic form of government is a complete form of government as its subjects are also participating in the affairs of the state.

DEMOCRACY MAKES GOOD CITIZENS:

Good citizen is one who truly and properly fulfill his work as a citizen, perform all of his duties in a proper way. A democracy is where the rule is of the people and it is led by people where people have rights in a democracy they also have responsibilities. The main responsibilities like to go and vote in the days of elections and to choose leadership for the country to be well informed and keep a knowledge of what is going on in our country and in the government, to talk to your selected MPA or MNA to make sure that all of the things in the environment are going well and in the right direction and by truly performing all of your duties as a true citizen you can make you country a good and a better place to live.

Franklin D. Roosevelt said:

“Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country.”

Abraham Lincoln said:

The burden should be lifted from the shoulders of few people and everybody in a democracy should be given an equal chance.

The citizens in a society must know that they have to bear the burden of responsibilities if they want to have their rights if the people want their democracy to be a successful one then they must be active and if they are not happy with their leaders they are free to organize and peacefully make the case for change -- or try to vote those leaders whom they trust.

Thus by everybody putting their share and contributing to the society in a proper way not only they will be good citizens but also make their country a good and a better place.

PROMOTES CHANGE:

Democracy is the form of government which comes into force by the people after having studied the manifesto of the political parties. After formation of government the ruling party tries to owner their commitment to transform the systems so as to provide speedy, easy and cheapest justices to the people. Democratic government also transforms the social and economic system to provide better health care, quality education and job opportunities. Democracy promotion also through diplomatic pressure and promote. It will also help to accelerate the economic activities domestically and internationally. To boost up the business the democratic government made utmost efforts to provide better infrastructure which pave the way to have better life style of the people.

The representative of the democratic governments has close contacts to the people and gets their vigilant comments which help them to promote good governance. If the peoples are satisfied to the performance of democratic government they may give them another chance to rule on them by the power of vote. Otherwise the ruling government may be rejected by the people and alternate form of government creates the space with new era. Media in the shape of video, print and social sector can also have the opportunities to keep the peoples well informed about the good governance or bad governance. As much as Democracy is understood, it is a government of the people, by the people and for the people. The ability of the people to have a voice in the running of the State, in the economy, health, education, infrastructural development, etc creates a bit-balanced environment for governance to thrive; this can only be achieved in a democratic governance. This will also increase the awareness of the people. Creation of peace, harmony and dignity of the people are the consequences of the democracy .This can only be possible if a democratic government exists otherwise people make face ban, ban and ban on every walk of life.

Hence with the help of these statements which are given above it is easy to understand that why democracy is the best form of government and why it has survived. Democracy is as much about having checks and balances to the executive and having transparency of decision-making as it is about elections and the populace throwing governments out of power. Democracy is the only type of government today which people can rely on and can expect some change in the society and to adapt to those changes.
